What is in-house lab testing?

COVID testing

There are two types of COVID-19 testing that Newtown Pediatrics offers: viral testing and antibody testing. While a viral test detects the presence of SARS-CoV-2 through a nose or throat swab, an antibody test determines whether your child has certain antibodies that protect them from infection.

Hearing tests

If your child has a hearing problem, your child’s pediatrician may recommend:

• Evoked otoacoustic emissions (EOAE)
• Auditory brainstem response (ABR)

With EOAE, their pediatrician inserts a soft plug into their ear that plays different sounds. If your baby has hearing loss, their ears won’t respond to the sounds. For ABR, the sounds involve clicking noises. Both tests are quick and painless and only performed when your baby is sleeping.

Vision tests
